Turtle Lake is a village located in Barron County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,065. The village is located partially within the Town of Almena in Barron County and partially within the Town of Beaver in Polk County, Wisconsin. The Town of Turtle Lake is also located in Barron County just south of the village.
Geography
Turtle Lake is located at 45°23'47" North, 92°8'49" West (45.396604, -92.146974)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.6 km² (2.9 mi²). 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.44% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,065 people, 475 households, and 268 families residing in the village. The population density is 146.9/km² (380.7/mi²). There are 508 housing units at an average density of 70.1/km² (181.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 94.37% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 4.51% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 475 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.5% are married couples living together, 14.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% are non-families. 38.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the village the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older.
