Tubac is a census-designated place located in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 949. The name is a version of the original Piman name Tchoowaka, meaning rotten. A more exact meaning may be Place Where Some Enemies Rotted.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 21.2 km² (8.2 mi²). 21.2 km² (8.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
History
Established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 949 people, 481 households, and 303 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 44.8/km² (115.9/mi²). There are 569 housing units at an average density of 26.9/km² (69.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 88.72% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 8.96% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 18.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 481 households out of which 12.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% are married couples living together, 2.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% are non-families. 32.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.97 and the average family size is 2.45.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 12.3% under the age of 18, 2.5% from 18 to 24, 12.1% from 25 to 44, 37.8% from 45 to 64, and 35.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 58 years. For every 100 females there are 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $39,444, and the median income for a family is $59,375. Males have a median income of $36,528 versus $30,268 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $46,643. 6.6% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 7.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
