Tse Chi-yung

Tse Chi-yung (謝知勇) (born December 22, 1981) is the first winner of three consecutive IOI Silver Medals from Hong Kong. His nickname is Unnilunium (Unu). He is now a trainer in the HKOI Training Team.

Tse Chi-yung graduated from Diocesan Boys' School, Hong Kong (DBS) in 2001. He is now an undergraduate at the University of Hong Kong, studying for degrees in BBA(IS) and BEng(SE). He will graduate in 2005.

In 1998, Tse Chi-yung represented his former school, DBS, to participate in the 2nd Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics (HKOI) and was awarded a Gold Medal. He got another three HKOI Gold Medals in the next three years. Below is a summary of the most remarkable prizes he got in this four years.

Tse Chi-yung has also taken part in the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC) International School Software Competition (ISSC) 1998. Owing to the fact that this competiton was group-based, he failed to get another prize for Hong Kong. As the saying goes, "my fate - Gold in HKOI, Silver in IOI, Bronze in NOI, and nothing in SEARCC".

In 2001 Tse Chi-yung was appointed trainer of the HKOI Training Team. He was responsible for the training of Hong Kong delegates.

Tse Chi-yung was the leader of the NOI 2002 Hong Kong delegation team. Under his brilliant leadership, the team managed to get one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals. In August 2003, as a guest, he followed the IOI 2003 Hong Kong delegation team to Wisconsin, USA. His presence enabled the IOI 2003 Hong Kong delegation team to achieve the best ever result - one Gold Medal and three Bronze Medals.

He has also participated in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, ranking 12th with a Bronze Medal in World Finals 2005. His two team mates were Liu Chi-man (cx) and Tam Siu-lung Alan.

Tse Chi-yung, one of the legends in the history of HKOI, will remain in our memories for ever and ever.
