Opened in the 1957, the Tropicana Resort & Casino is one of the oldest hotel/casinos on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned and operated by the Aztar Corporation. The hotel has 1,871 rooms and is attached to a 61,000 square foot (6,000 m²) casino.
This location, Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, has the most hotel rooms of any interection in the world and as a result is extremely busy. Pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead, the Tropicana is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos: to the north across Tropicana Avenue, the MGM Grand, and to the west across the Strip, the Excalibur.
History
In the 1970s it was controlled by the Kansas City mafia.
There have been discussions about what will be done with this tropical themed hotel and the attached 34 acres (138,000 m²) of land.
