Tooele, Utah

Tooele is a city located in Tooele County in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 22,502. It is the county seat of Tooele CountyTemplate:GR.

Tooele is located at 40°32'11" North, 112°17'52" West (40.536411, -112.297775)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 54.8 km² (21.2 mi²). 54.8 km² (21.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 22,502 people, 7,459 households, and 5,825 families residing in the city. The population density is 411.0/km² (1,064.4/mi²). There are 7,923 housing units at an average density of 144.7/km² (374.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.96% White, 0.74% African American, 1.32% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 3.84% from other races, and 2.44% from two or more races. 10.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,459 households out of which 46.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 18.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.39.

In the city the population is spread out with 34.1% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $43,862, and the median income for a family is $48,490. Males have a median income of $37,373 versus $24,175 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,580. 6.4% of the population and 5.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.9% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
