Tony Ashwin Kanal (born August 27, 1970) is the bassist for the group No Doubt. He was born in Kingsbury, England. For much of the band's existence, he was in a relationship with the group's frontwoman, Gwen Stefani, that ended in the mid-1990s just before No Doubt achieved superstardom with the album Tragic Kingdom. Many of the songs from that album, notably the band's biggest hit, "Don't Speak", were written by Stefani based on her relationship with Kanal and their breakup.
Kanal grew up in Anaheim, California, and currently resides in Los Feliz, a suburb of Los Angeles where he also keeps his recording studio, Kingsbury Studios.
