Tommy McAvoy

The Right Honourable Thomas McLaughlin McAvoy (born 14 December 1943) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He has been Labour and Co-operative member of Parliament for Glasgow Rutherglen since 1987.
McAvoy worked as a storeman at the Hoover factory in Cambuslang, and was a shop steward for the Amalgamated Engineering Union. He is now a member of Amicus. He was a Strathclyde regional councillor from 1982 until elected to Parliament. He has been a Labour whip 1990-93 and again since 1996. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 2003.
He and his wife Eleanor have four sons.
