Toaripi Lauti

Sir Toaripi Lauti was born in 1928. He was the chief minister of Tuvalu from October 2 1975 to October 1 1978. When Tuvalu became independent, he was appointed as its first Prime Minister until his replacement on September 8, 1981, as a result of his alleged involvement in an investment scandal. More recently, he was the Governor-General of Tuvalu, representing the British monarch as head of state, from October 1, 1990 through December 1 1993.
