Tishomingo is a city located in Johnston County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,162. It is the county seat of Johnston CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Tishomingo is located at 34°14'8" North, 96°40'39" West (34.235575, -96.677542)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.3 km² (4.8 mi²). 12.2 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.63% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,162 people, 1,218 households, and 768 families residing in the city. The population density is 259.2/km² (671.0/mi²). There are 1,407 housing units at an average density of 115.3/km² (298.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 73.12% White, 4.65% African American, 15.24% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.98% from other races, and 5.53% from two or more races. 3.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,218 households out of which 30.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.8% are married couples living together, 15.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 3.02.
