The Yale Society of Orpheus & Bacchus
|
The Yale Society of Orpheus & Bacchus is one of the oldest a cappella collegiate singing groups in the United States. They were founded in 1938 by four Yale undergraduates as an alternative to the Yale Whiffenpoofs.
The SOBs, as they are affectionately known, are the only Yale group other than the Whiffenpoofs that have a standing weekly gig at Mory's, the legendary club adjacent to the Yale campus.
SOB alumni include:
- Henry Blodget, former Merrill Lynch analyst
- Tad Low, co-creator of VH-1's Pop-up Video
- James Connaughton, deputy secretary of the EPA
- Mike Errico, singer/songwriter
- John Gidding, one of the designers on the ABC Family show, Knock First
- Robert Picardo, actor who portrayed The Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager
