The Reptile Room is the second novel by Lemony Snicket in the book series A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Summary
The second terrible tale of Baudelaire orphans begins with the children riding down Lousy Lane in Mr. Poe's cramped car, headed to the home of their new guardian -- Dr. Montgomery Montgomery, a herpetologist and their "late father's cousin's wife's brother," accordoing to Mr. Poe.
After arriving they notice many strange snake-shaped hedges and bushes, and begin wondering if Dr. Mongomery will be a good guardian -- or at least, better than Count Olaf, their last guardian.
They knock on the door and are greeted by "a short, chubby man with a round red face," Dr. Montgomery! He invites them to eat coconut cake in the kitchen with him, and asks that that Baudelaires call him Uncle Monty. Mr. Poe says he must run and that he will bring the Baudelaires their luggage within the week.
Uncle Monty tells the children that they will soon be going on an expedition to Peru once his new assistant, Stephano arrives. He says that his old assistant, Gustav quit suddenly before the expedition. Template:Book-stub
