The Prince of Tides

The Prince of Tides is a 1991 American film drama produced and directed by Barbra Streisand which tells the story of a writer who is reluctant to help his sister's psychiatrist unlock their dysfunctional family's secrets. The movie was adapted by Pat Conroy and Becky Johnston from Conroy's 1986 novel.
When Savannah Wingo attempts suicide again, her twin brother, Tom, must go to New York to help her. Upon reaching the hospital where she is staying, he finds that she is in such a bad condition that she cannot help her psychiatrist understand the extent of her problems. Thus, the psychiatrist, Susan Lowenstein, asks Tom to act as Savannah's memory and help her uncover the subconcious painful memories that still haunt her today.
