The Commitments
|
The Commitments, a 1987 novel written by Roddy Doyle, is a tale about a group of teenagers in Dublin, Ireland. The teenagers are a mismatched group with no talent that decide to start a Rhythm and Blues (R&B) band. They quickly start learning how to play their instruments and perform a number of local gigs. As with most of Roddy Doyle's other works, the characters are complex and evolve throughout the book.
The book was made into a movie of the same name in 1991 starring Robert Arkins, Michael Aherne, and a large supporting cast.
