Tasmanian Devils Football Club
|
The Tasmanian Devils Football Club is an Australian Rules Football team, in the Victorian Football League in Australia. It is the only non-Victorian team in the league.
Unusually, this club was not founded by players or a lesser league. It was created by the AFL, over the top of the two dominant Tasmanian Aussie Rules leagues. It was designed to reduce interest in games not auspiced by the AFL. Another plank in this strategy was the introduction of St Kilda and Hawthorn AFL games to Launceston.
The AFL has no plans to promote this club to AFL level, despite Tasmania offering a larger population base than used by many AFL clubs. The AFL would rather see Tasmanians support the existing AFL clubs.
