Tanaina is a census-designated place located in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP is 4,993.
Geography
Tanaina is located at 61°37'27" North, 149°25'58" West (61.624211, -149.432817)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 71.3 km² (27.5 mi²). 70.2 km² (27.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.53% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,993 people, 1,609 households, and 1,266 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 71.1/km² (184.3/mi²). There are 1,700 housing units at an average density of 24.2/km² (62.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 87.88% White, 0.54% Black or African American, 4.67% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.38% from other races, and 4.91% from two or more races. 3.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,609 households out of which 49.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% are non-families. 14.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.10 and the average family size is 3.46.
