I hereby declare a Wikipedia:Jihad_on_Bullshit.
This is the correct term, according to any serious scholar who is not making some propaganda point. It should be obvious from the references made to (and in, where separate articles still exist) Islam, Islamofascism, radical Islamist, Islamism, fundamentalism, Islamic philosophy and Caliphate here, that there is some common ignorance or systemic bias here that Islam is somehow some old faith that is only now being applied to politics by surprise, and that has nothing to say about natural law or the modern world.
First step: read modern Islamic philosophy to satisfy yourself that this is not entirely the case, and that the more specific movements like Wahabism and Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaida itself need to be referred where appropriate.
Second step: read list of Islamic terms in Arabic and actually understand Islam as a set of ethical codes and legal codes before you start writing about it. Know when you are talking about a specific element of Islam, and where there is a more specific article, or will be, for which that list is the best guide.
Third step: now, if you must say something, before you WRITE about it, read Olivier Roy (see Disinfopedia: Islamic Caliphate (http://disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Islamic_Caliphate) for a quick summary of his views and G. H. Jansen (see tarika for a very small example of scholarship on this) and Ziauddin Sardar for some really solid introduction to the issues in the fusion of politics and religion that is Islam. If you would actually read Mawdudi too, considered the founder of the modern militant movement by most, that would help much. This will take you about a week, and it will basically open your eyes to what's going on in the media.

It appears the next step is to forward this article, its complement on the larger movement Islam as a political movement, to a large number of groups of all stripes, along with the name and address of Robert Kaiser (User:RK) who claims that they are all followers of Deobandi, Mawdudi or Wahabism.
- Is this to be taken as a threat? Threats are not appreciated on Wikipedia, and have severe consequences. RickK 00:43, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
With no serious argument raised by either User:Graft nor User:RK, only censorship and lies (such as the lie that the entire content of this article is from Islamism), it's time to delete Islamism and simply get on with this refactor.
oops, was disconnected. Just would like to mention that since the article was proposed for deletion, it made sense that its content could be visible.
-- Hi folks, just did a complete re-write of the first part of this article, along the hopefully neutral POV that I have tried to insert into Islamic terrorism. Please read both before making changes, as the two terms are closely related in usage. Hopefully this will help. --Zeeshanhasan 17:47, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)
What the heck?
Why does this article mention itself in the header, and what is its status? Cool Hand Luke 08:01, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- This article, and a bunch of other ones, were created as a part of a long war with a user who (at the time) went by EntmootsOfTrolls and was sometimes known as 24 or 142 based on his IP. Probably still around - give a holler! He felt that Islamism was POV and objected to the article being there. Many others (including myself) disagreed, so he created this and Islam as a political movement as "alternatives". I fought to have it deleted but was unsuccessful; I'm still unconvinced of its value, and it's riddled with his POV. Take it for what you will, and do with it what you wish.
