Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Limited (Traditional Chinese: 台灣積體電路製造股份有限公司, abbrev. TSMC) is the largest dedicated independent semiconductor foundry worldwide, with its headquarters and main operations located in Taiwan. Founded in 1987, its market capitalization as of 9/30/2003: US$40,366Million.
The company is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol of TSM. The Chairman and CEO is Dr. Morris Chang. Philips holds a 19.1% stake in TSMC.
Facilities
- One 6-inch wafer fab in full operation (Fabs 2)
- Five 8-inch wafer fabs in full operation (Fabs 3, 5, 6, 7, 8)
- One 12-inch wafer fab in production (Fab 12) and one under construction (Fab 14, which is expected to begin production in 2003)
- One 8-inch wafer Fab facility through our TSMC affiliate-Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation
- WaferTech, TSMC's wholly owned subsidiary 8-inch fab in Camas, Washington, USA
- A joint venture with Philips Semiconductor and with Singapore's EDB Investments (SSMC) which has also brought increased capacity since the end of 2002
