Szczytno

Szczytno is a town in north-eastern Poland with 27,500 inhabitants (1995).
Situated in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Olsztyn Voivodship (1975-1998).
History
The town was also known by the German name Ortelsburg, after the Teutonic Knight Ortolf von Trier (1349-1371), the builder of the castle Ortulfsburg in East Prussia. The first mention of Szczytno was in 1360 on the arrival of Masovian colonists. According to German census 1900 Masurs consisted 74,5 % of population.Template:Poland-stub de:Szczytno pl:Szczytno
