Surgeon General can have several different meanings.
- The Surgeon General of the United States is the chief medical officer of the United States Government.
- The medical services of the United States Navy, United States Army and United States Air Force are each headed by a Surgeon General.
- The Surgeon-General is the senior medical officer of the British Armed Forces. The post is held by the senior of the three individual service medical directors and carries the rank of surgeon vice-admiral, lieutenant-general or air marshal. The British and Irish equivalent of the Surgeon General of the United States is known as the Government Chief Medical Officer.
