Surf City is a borough located in Ocean County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,442.
Geography
Surf City is located at 39°39'41" North, 74°9'60" West (39.661385, -74.166633)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 21.74% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,442 people, 706 households, and 420 families residing in the borough. The population density is 773.3/km² (1,990.4/mi²). There are 2,621 housing units at an average density of 1,405.5/km² (3,617.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.06% White, 0.14% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.42% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. 1.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 706 households out of which 13.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.6% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.4% are non-families. 34.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.61.
In the borough the population is spread out with 12.4% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 21.6% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 34.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 53 years. For every 100 females there are 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.8 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $38,190, and the median income for a family is $50,268. Males have a median income of $40,625 versus $25,208 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $26,632. 7.5% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.1% of those under the age of 18 and 3.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
