Superior Hiking Trail
|
The Superior Hiking Trail is a 205-mile long distance footpath that follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior in northeastern Minnesota. It begins north of Two Harbors, Minnesota, and ends just before the Canadian border.
Considered one of the best hiking trails in the country, the Superior Hiking Trail is truly that... Superior. Backpacker Magazine named the Superior Hiking Trail the trail with the "Best Trail/Camp/Shelter conditions", the trail with the "Best Signage" in the country, and one of the most scenic trails in the nation (Dec. 2000). The trail begins in Lake County and extends along the great Lake Superior through seven state parks. Enjoy breathtaking views of boreal forests, Sawtooth Mountains, babbling brooks, rushing waterfalls, and abundant wildlife.
The Superior Hiking Trail was conceived by a group of individuals in the mid-1980s who banded together to form the Superior Hiking Trail Association. SHTA is a member supported non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the human and financial resources to build, promote, maintain, protect and preserve a hiking trail along the ridgeline of the North Shore of Lake Superior. Ultimately the trail will begin in Duluth, Minnesota.
