Hyaena hyaena (Linnaeus, 1758) |
The Striped Hyena (Hyaena hyaena) is closely related to the Brown Hyena, but lives in northern Africa, the Middle East, and western India. It's now extinct in Europe, but can still rarely be spotted in Asia Minor. Like their brown cousins, Striped Hyenas are largely scavengers, and will also eat fruit and even insects.
