Star Trek: Bridge Commander is a tactical simulation, or flight sim, game, published by Activision, based in the Star Trek universe. Generally, this game was well received by the reviewers of various gaming magazines, scoring higher than 80% in most cases.
The plot revolves around a newly promoted captain who is assigned to investigate an explosion of a star in the Maelstrom. Throughout the mystery, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lt. Commander Data occasionally assist in the investigation.
It appears that a rogue Cardassian is responsible and is using a new weapon from an unknown race to threaten Alpha Quadrant races.
The captain and his crew take command of the USS Sovereign to combat this new threat to the Federation.
The game allows two different flavours of gameplay: history mode and simulation mode. Simulation mode allows customizing missions for neverending playing -- from Starfleet defensive tactics, to piloting a shuttle craft in a cooperative assault, to a Cardassian outpost.
