Spring Heel Jack is an English electronic music duo comprised of John Coxon and Ashley Wales, perhaps best known for releasing a trio of drum n bass albums during the 1990s. Wales was formerly a composer of "serious" music, an influence that carried over to much of the duo's work. The duo also dabbled in mainstream music as producers for Betty Boo and collaborated with Everything But The Girl.
More recently they have moved away from drum n bass to collaborate with free improvisors from the United States and Europe for the Thirsty Ear label. Collaborators have included saxophonists Evan Parker and Tim Berne, bassist William Parker, trombonist Paul Rutherford, drummer Han Bennink and pianist Matthew Shipp.
