Terrell County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 10,970. The county's county seat is Dawson, Georgia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 874 km² (338 mi²). 869 km² (335 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.67% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,970 people, 4,002 households, and 2,913 families residing in the county. The population density is 13/km² (33/mi²). There are 4,460 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 37.95% White, 60.69% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 1.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,002 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.10% are married couples living together, 24.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 24.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
