Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,210 km² (853 mi²). 2,204 km² (851 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.25% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 67,725 people, 25,355 households, and 18,889 families residing in the county. The population density is 31/km² (80/mi²). There are 27,328 housing units at an average density of 12/km² (32/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.58% White, 1.36% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 3.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 25,355 households out of which 32.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.40% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.50% are non-families. 21.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the county, the population is spread out with 24.60% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 28.90% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 13.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 97.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $40,748, and the median income for a family is $46,262. Males have a median income of $30,618 versus $21,896 for females.
