Contents

Name origin

The name "Spearow" is a combination of spear and sparrow, a type of bird.

Information

Spearow is a small bird Pokémon. It eats insects in grassy areas, and has short wings, which means Spearow has to fly fast to stay airborne, and can't fly very far or high. It also uses its wings for flushing out insects from tall grass, and plucks at them with its beak.

Since it isn't the strongest of Pokémon, it has to fly around ceaselessly, making high-pitched sounds to scare off other wild Pokémon and protect its territory.

Availability

Spearow is found on Routes 3, 4, 9, 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23 in Pokémon Red, Blue, Fire Red, and Leaf Green, Routes 3, 4, 9, 16, 18, 22 in Pokémon Yellow, Route 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 22, 33, 42, 46 and by using Headbutt in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Spearow is not available in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, but you can trade from Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Strengths / weaknesses

Spearow is vulnerable to Electric, Ice and Rock, and strong against Grass, Ground, Bug and Ghost.

Anime Appearances

Spearow first appeared in the anime after Ash confused it with the more docile Pidgey from far away and attempted to capture it with his hands and by throwing a stone, only to find himself severely pecked. This Spearow makes a reappearance in a later episode in its evolved form, a Fearow.
