Sovereigntist events and strategies

A number of events and strategies have punctuated the history of the Quebec sovereigntist movement. It also included several terrorist elements, including the Front de libération du Québec.

- Patriotes Rebellion
- Francoeur Motion
- Quiet Revolution
- Not exclusively sovereigntist, but is of great significance to the movement. However, it can be said that, like the sovereigntist movement, it was, in essence, nationalist and autonomist.
- 1970: The October Crisis - kidnapping of the British Trade Commissioner and the kidnapping and murder of the Vice-Premier by members of the FLQ terrorist organization whose goal was Quebec sovereignty;
- November 15, 1976
- The taking of power of the first clearly sovereigntist party in Quebec, René Lévesque's Parti Québécois.
- 1980 Quebec referendum
- The first public consultation on Quebec independence.
- 1995 Quebec referendum
- The second public consultation on Quebec independence.
- Post-Referendum Syndrome
- The so-called syndrome of depression and abandon after referendum defeats for sovereigntist and reformist federalists.

Strategies
- Étapisme
- A "step by step" policy pushed notably by Claude Morin that became a Parti Québécois policy advocating the separation of the taking of power and the declaration of independence.
- Le Beau Risque

- The Three Periods
- Spoken of by Jacques Parizeau before the first election of the Bloc Québécois in the prospect of an eventual plebiscite on independence.
- Les Conditions Gagnantes
- The belief of Lucien Bouchard that the Quebec State needed to secure a strong economy before hoping to inspire in its population a desire for independence.
- The Declaration of Gatineau
- A solemn declaration of Bernard Landry reaffirming dedication to the cause and mapping out the way.
- The 1000 days strategy
- A plan of Bernard Landry before the 2003 Quebec election.
- The 2000 days strategy
- A plan of Bernard Landry after the 2003 Quebec election.
