South Whitley is a town located in Whitley County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,782.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,782 people, 742 households, and 482 families residing in the town. The population density is 929.8/km² (2,423.2/mi²). There are 791 housing units at an average density of 412.7/km² (1,075.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.16% White, 0.22% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.22% from two or more races. 0.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 742 households out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.1% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.97.
