Shelby is a village located in Polk County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 690.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 690 people, 299 households, and 199 families residing in the village. The population density is 493.4/km² (1,268.4/mi²). There are 323 housing units at an average density of 230.9/km² (593.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.55% White, 0.14% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 1.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
