Serket

In Egyptian mythology, Serket ("she who causes the throat to breathe") was a goddess depicted as wearing a scorpion on her head. She protected people against the poisonous bites and stings of animals, including snakes and scorpions. She was the patron deity of pharaohs, and dead souls, a position leading to her watching over one of the canopic jars, specifically, since she was associated with poison, the jar of the small intestine, the organ that was most thought of as the victim of poison, which was deified as Qebehsenuf, one of the Four sons of Horus. It was also said that she protected the tents of embalmers. She also guarded Apep once he was captured and imprisoned in Duat.

Serket was also the name (sometimes written as "Scorpion" or "King Scorpion") of a Predynastic king of Upper Egypt, who ruled from about 3150 to 3125 BC, consequently known as the Scorpion King. However, it should be noted that Serket was not the basis for the 2002 movie The Scorpion King, which is entirely fictionalised.
