Selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor
|
A selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor or SNRI is a drug that inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine by neurons, so that more of this neurotransmitter remains in the synapse. Atomoxetine is an SNRI, with the trade name Straterra. The abbreviation "SNRI" is also used to mean serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, which can be confusing.
Straterra is only availible in the United States for the treatment of ADD and ADHD, unofficial uses include the treatment of depression, and anxiety.
