Sandra Cisneros

Sandra Cisneros (born December 20, 1954 in Chicago) is a U.S. author and poet best known for her novel The House on Mango Street. She had 2 parents and six brothers. Much of her writing is influenced by her Mexican-American heritage. She received a BA in English from Loyola University of Chicago in 1976 and her MFA in writing at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop in 1978.
She still lives in the infamous 'purple house' on Gunther Street in the King William District of San Antonio.
