A salt lake is a lake which has a concentration of salts and other minerals significantly higher than most lakes. In many cases, salt lakes have a higher concentration of salt than sea water.
Salt lakes occur when there is no outlet for a lake (i.e. it is an Endorheic or terminal lake), and all water flowing in evaporates, leaving behind any dissolved salts.
