Saku Koivu

Saku Koivu (Born November 23, 1974 in Turku, Finland-) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who plays for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League. He is currently the team captain. In the 2001-2002 season he was diagnosed with cancer and missed almost the entire season. He returned for the play-offs and along with José Theodore lead the Canadiens to an unlikely upset of the number one ranked Boston Bruins. He was drafted by the Canadiens in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, First Round, Twenty-First Overall. He has been captain since 1999.
Currently, Koivu has returned to Finland to play for TPS Turku, under his father who is the head coach. He is also joined in Turku by fellow Canadien Craig Rivet who is also playing for TPS Turku since the NHL's season has been cancelled due to the lockout.
