Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
|
The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO), based in St. Paul (the state capital of Minnesota), is the nation's only full-time professional chamber orchestra. As of 2005, it has 35 members. The group has a weekly radio program distributed by American Public Media (the national arm of Minnesota Public Radio), and claim to have 140,000 listeners each week. The program airs in Minnesota on Mondays at 8 PM and is hosted by Michael Barone, who also hosts Pipedreams.
The organization won a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 1980 for their 1979 recording of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, one of the earliest digital audio recordings to see commercial release.
