Fleetwood Mac (1975) | Rumours (1977) | Tusk (1979) |
Rumours was a rock and roll concept album, released by Fleetwood Mac in 1977 (see 1977 in music). It was the second album recorded with this lineup, following the successful self-titled Fleetwood Mac album.
The album deals with personal tensions within the group. Rumours won a 1978 Grammy award for Album of the Year, and spent 31 weeks at the top of the Billboard Music Charts, in spite of critical panning for perceived pandering to mainstream tastes. By 1998 the album had sold more than 18 million copies in the United States alone and was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America as the third highest selling single-disc album in history.
In 1998 Q magazine readers voted Rumours the 25th greatest album of all time; in 2003 the TV network VH1 placed it at number 16.
