Romuva
|
Romuva is a revival of pre-Christian Lithuanian religion. The name (also Romovė, Ruomuva) is a Lithuanized Old Prussian word, and refers to a temple of that religion.
Adherents of this polytheistic faith assert the sacredness of nature. Fire is worshipped, and they believe that their ancestors live at the hearth of a fire. Various foods, grasses, and flowers are thrown into a small fire as sacrifices. The worshippers hope that they can connect to their ancestors and to the gods by coming near the fire.
Believers assert that after death, a person's soul continues to exist by moving into another object.
The faith requires five daily prayers.
