Richard Martin fitz Oliver, (c.1602-1648), Galway lawyer and a member of the Catholic Confederates of Ireland. Member of the senior line of the Martyn family, one of The Tribes of Galway. Lived at Dun Guaire Castle, Kinvarra. Worked with his brother-in-law and first cousion, Patrick Darcy, against the Plantation of Connaught in the 1630's, and served on the Supreme Council of the Confederates in the 1640's. Mayor of Galway 1642-1643. Survived by his wife, Magdalene French, and children Oliver, Peter, John, Patrick and Magdalene, and his father Oliver Martin fitz Richard. He was the ancestor of Edward Martyn, (1859-1923) of Tullira Castle, Galway, and of the Hungarian artist, Ferencs Martyn (1899-1986).
