Richard Burden

Richard Haines Burden (born September 1, 1954) is a politician in England. He is a member of the Labour Party, and member of Parliament for Birmingham Northfield.
Burden has been MP for Birmingham Northfield since 1992 when he overcame a Conservative majority. He extended his majority in the Labour landslide election victory of 1997, though it was slightly reduced at the 2001 and 2005 elections.
He is chair of the British Palestinian Group and is an avid motorsports fan. Local politics in Northfield has long been dominated by the car factory MG Rover, the factory has very recently gone into administration after negotiations with Chinese car manufacturer Shanghai Automotive collapsed.
He has not been known as a Labour rebel but has voted against the New Labour government on a few occasions, most notably he voted against the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to government minister Jeff Rooker until 2001.
