Religion saver

The religion saver is a tool for detaching and splicing a flat chain.
While it is possible to detach and splice flat chain using only a hammer and another heavy object, it is almost inevitable that one will hit one's fingers with the hammer while doing so. This, not infrequently, leads to cursing, or "losing one's religion" in rural American vernacular.
Thus, the term "religion saver."
