Regional Institute of Technology is one of the seventeen RECs jointly sponsored by the central and state governments in India. It was started in the year 1960. Since then, it has evolved into a beautiful campus with a modern administrative building, library & classrooms with state-of-the-art laboratories, computer centre & workshop. There are several hostels and residential quarters spread over 380 acres (1.5 km²) on the bank of the river Kharkai. The institute is affiliated to the Ranchi University for awarding degree for the various courses offered by the college. The institute has successfully been shaping the career of the students for over four decades. It has come up as a seat of scientific & technological learning, instilling a sense of purpose and imparting an integrated personality to the young learners.
