Radio Network Controller
|
Template:Cleanup-context The Radio Network Controller is the element in the UMTS radio network (UTRAN) responsible for control of the Node-Bs in the radio network, that is to say the base stations which are distributed throughout the country. The RNC carries out some of the mobility management functions and is the point where encryption is done before user data is sent to and from the mobile. The RNC connects to the GSM Circuit Switched Core Network over the IuCS interface and with the GPRS Core Network over the IuPS interface.
