Pu Chou Mountain
|
Pu Chou Mountain is important in the Chinese explanation for why the Earth's axis is tilted. According to Chinese mythology, a horned monster, Kung Kung, tried to become emperor. When he failed, he was so angry that he impaled Mount Pu Chou on his horns. This broke the column of the sky, and severed its link with earth. In the northwest the sky collapsed. Hence the sun, moon and stars slipped towards the northwest and the earth tilted to the southeast.
