Provincial reconstruction team

A provincial reconstruction team (PRT) is a group of forty to eighty civilians and military specialists who perform small reconstruction projects or provide security for others involved in aid work. PRTs are backed by national and international security forces.
A PRT includes a military component (Civil Affairs/Force Protection), aid agencies (USAID), civilian contractors (KBR), and sometimes police agencies.
There are currently 16 PRTs in Afghan cities, Asadabad (US), Bamiyan (NZ), Farah (US), Gardez (US), Ghazni (US), Herat (US), Jalalabad (US), Kandahar (US), Khowst (US), Kunduz (GE), Lashkar Gah (US), Mazar-i-Sharif (UK), Parwan (US/ROK), Qalat (US), Sharana (US), Tarin-Kowt (US).
Thirteen were operated by the United States with one shared by the Republic of Korea, one by Germany and one each was operated by Britain and New Zealand.
Canadian forces provide similar services under the name Civil-Military Co-operation.
