A type of psychic phenomenon, a premonition involves an individual or individuals who has a vision or dream regarding an event which will occur in the future. They have been reported for centuries; the subjects of premonitions are varied. No properly conducted scientific studies support the existence of this alleged phenomenon, although history provides occasional anecdotal evidence. President Lincoln's detailed dream of his death and funeral, which he related to both his bodyguard and his wife mere hours before his assassination, is perhaps the best-known example.
