Poopó is a saline lake extending circa 130 kilometres southwards of Oruro, Bolivia. It has an area of 1,340 km˛, and is fed by the Desaguadero River, the sole outflow from Lake Titicaca. The waters are muddy and there are extensive areas of exposed mud. It is particularly important for flamingos.
