Design Focus
PmWiki is designed to be extremely easy to install and to customize as an engine for creating professional web sites. The software focuses on ease of use in order to eliminate all barriers that might keep people with little IT experience from using a Wiki.
Features
Templates
PmWiki offers a template scheme that makes it possible to change its layout with a high degree of flexibility both with regard to functionality and with regard to external appearance.
Access Control
An important feature of PmWiki is the capability to establish password protection for individual pages or groups of pages, for example to establish defined zones for collaborative work by certain groups, for example in a company intranet.
Password protection can be applied to reading, editing, uploading to and changing passwords for the restricted zone. Though the use of custom scripts (below), it is possible to integrate password protection into .htpasswd.
Customization
PmWiki follows a design philosophy (http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/PmWikiPhilosophy). Among those are ease of installation, maintainablilty, and keeping non-required features out of the core engine. Instead, PmWiki's core engine design seeks to encourage customization and has a rich cookbook of custom extensions.
Author
PmWiki was written by Patrick Michaud (who also owns the PmWiki trademark).
