Plainsboro Township is a township located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 20,215.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 31.7 km² (12.2 mi²). 30.7 km² (11.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.35% water.
Education
Plainsboro and West Windsor are a mutual school district. There are three elementary schools (K - 3), two upper elementary schools (4 - 5), two middle schools (6 - 8), and two high schools (9 - 12). The WW-P (West Windsor-Plainsboro) school district is one of the top learning districts in New Jersey. The high schools hold first to fifth places in many of the state's contests.
In fact, in 2004, WW-P High School North was ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly, and WW-P High School South was ranked #5.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,215 people, 8,742 households, and 5,122 families residing in the township. The population density is 659.2/km² (1,707.7/mi²). There are 9,133 housing units at an average density of 297.8/km² (771.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 58.20% White, 7.58% African American, 0.10% Native American, 30.51% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.36% from other races, and 2.24% from two or more races. 4.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,742 households out of which 33.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.4% are non-families. 33.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 3.06.
In the township the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 45.2% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 4.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $72,097, and the median income for a family is $88,783. Males have a median income of $62,327 versus $44,671 for females. The per capita income for the township is $38,982. 3.0% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.7% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
