Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,774 km² (685 mi²). 1,743 km² (673 mi²) of it is land and 31 km² (12 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.75% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 88.44% White, 9.17% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.92% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 1.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
